Heidi Watney was born May 19th 1981. She is an American sportscaster. Her previous experience as a sportscaster includes stints at the University of San Diego, New England Sports Network (Boston), Time Warner Cable SportsNet (Los Angeles) as well as two stations in Fresno. Watney was a Clovis West High School student in Fresno. She competed in gymnastics in hurdles, diving, and gymnastics. 1 She was a National Merit Scholar. She was accepted into the University of San Diego with an academic scholarship. In 2003 she graduated with top honors. Watney was the Miss California USA 2002 runner-up. Watney is the sister of professional golfer Nick Watney. The author Andy Weir stated he used Watney's name for the character "Mark Watney" in his 2011 science fiction novel The Martian after hearing her name in a Red Sox game broadcast. 8 Watney appeared in the music video of the Dropkick Murphys' single "Going Out in Style.
